Artist Statement

I began with an interest in Tarot cards and their use in predicting the Past, Present and Future. I was also interested in their graphic and narrative qualities. Taking the 2 dimensional illustrative potential of the cards, I explore my own narrative as a contemporary tale/saga – in this series, specifically covering the period in time around my father winning the lottery. The story takes us from family life before what was to be a a life changing event, through experiences of transition to a new and unimagined life.

Using terracotta and stoneware slip I am trying to visually archive these experiences. While my work will connect with family and friends the most, I hope that it will inspire people around to believe that dreams can be realised, unexpected events can change our lives in a moment
